Air Freight from China to Iran | Cost & Quotes

Air freight from China to Iran is an option for time-sensitive commercial cargo, production parts and samples. There is no single reliable price per kilogram for every shipment. The cargo, chargeable weight, origin airport, available service and delivery scope must be checked before a usable quotation can be issued.

If you are still comparing transport modes, start with our China to Iran shipping guide. For your first shipment, use the freight quote and document checklist.

When is air freight worth considering?

Compare the cost of a delayed delivery with the additional transport cost. A replacement part needed for production may justify air freight, while a bulky shipment with a flexible deadline may be better suited to sea transport. Cargo value alone does not establish suitability: acceptance, packaging, dimensions and the confirmed service schedule matter too.

Check battery-powered goods, liquids, chemicals, temperature-sensitive cargo and oversized packages before booking. A quotation for general cargo should not be assumed to cover special handling. Insurance and suitable packaging must be considered separately; air transport does not remove the risk of damage.

How is China to Iran air freight cost calculated?

The base freight charge is normally based on chargeable weight, using the greater of gross and volumetric weight under the selected service rules. Gross weight includes packaging. For equally sized packages, a calculation using an agreed divisor of 6,000 is:

Volumetric weight in kg = package count × length × width × height in cm ÷ 6,000.
Calculate groups of different package sizes separately. Confirm the divisor, rounding, minimum charge and applicable weight break with the service provider.

Base freight can be expressed as confirmed chargeable weight multiplied by the quoted unit rate. That is not automatically the final payable amount. Collection, origin handling, documentation, surcharges, destination handling and final delivery may be separate. Quote validity, currency and included services must be explicit.

Worked example: actual versus volumetric weight

This is an educational example, not a live rate: ten cartons each measure 60 × 40 × 50 cm and have a combined gross weight of 150 kg. Each carton occupies 0.12 cubic metres, so the total is 1.20 CBM. Using a divisor of 6,000 produces 200 kg of volumetric weight. The initial chargeable basis is therefore 200 kg, subject to the service rules. If the same cartons weigh 260 kg gross, the initial basis becomes 260 kg.

Use our CBM and volumetric weight calculator to prepare the measurements. A general air freight divisor and an express-service divisor may differ; confirm which applies. A lower price per kilogram is not necessarily a lower total if the minimum charge or weight basis differs.

How to compare two air freight quotations

  • Use identical cargo details: commodity, package count, final outside dimensions, total gross weight, origin and final destination.
  • Match the delivery scope: identify factory pickup, airport delivery or door delivery and who handles each stage.
  • Separate charge items: collection, origin warehouse and acceptance, air waybill documentation, freight, surcharges and destination charges.
  • Check exclusions: customs clearance, duties, taxes, storage, insurance and special handling should not be assumed included.
  • Confirm timing: ask whether the estimate begins at cargo collection, warehouse receipt or departure, and ends at airport arrival or final delivery.
  • Check validity and acceptance: record the rate expiry, capacity status, commodity restrictions and any conditions for remeasurement.

For larger cargo with less urgency, compare the total scope with sea freight from China to Iran and road freight via Khorgos. Compare the delivery outcome and total cost rather than a unit price alone.

Copyable air freight quote request

Complete this template and send it with your packing list through our contact page:

Please quote air freight from [supplier city and address in China] to [airport or final address in Iran]. Commodity: […]. Package count: […]. Outside dimensions of each package group: […] cm. Total gross weight: […] kg. Cargo-ready date: […]. Agreed seller delivery term: […]. Batteries, liquids or special requirements: […]. Please state the chargeable weight, volumetric divisor, included and excluded services, currency, validity and estimated timing for each stage.

Origin airport and transit-time planning

Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), Shanghai Pudong (PVG), Beijing Capital (PEK) and Shenzhen Bao'an (SZX) may be considered when reviewing the Chinese origin. Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) is an Iranian air cargo gateway. Naming an airport does not confirm a direct flight or available capacity for your shipment date.

Choose the origin in relation to the supplier location, inland collection cost, cargo acceptance and confirmed schedule. Separate flight time from pickup, booking, airport acceptance, transit connections, destination formalities and final delivery. A single fixed number of days is not a reliable promise for every shipment.

Documents and shipment stages

Prepare a Commercial Invoice and Packing List with consistent commodity details, package counts, weights and dimensions. Shipper and consignee details, the transport document, certificates, insurance documents and commodity-specific permits must be reviewed for the actual shipment. Not every document has the same requirement for every type of goods.

  1. Review the cargo, packaging, measurements and delivery requirement.
  2. Confirm acceptance and the applicable documents with the operational team.
  3. Compare service options and approve a written quote.
  4. Arrange collection or delivery to the nominated origin facility.
  5. Coordinate export formalities, acceptance and booked transport.
  6. Monitor arrival, destination formalities and delivery within the agreed scope.

A freight forwarder can coordinate these activities within the contract. Customs clearance, insurance, packing and door delivery are not automatically included simply because a forwarder is involved. See our international air freight services for service information.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price per kilogram from China to Iran?

A usable price requires the cargo details, chargeable weight, route, service date and cost scope. Request a dated quotation instead of relying on an undated generic rate.

How long does air freight take?

Confirm the estimate for the actual booking and distinguish flight time from complete delivery time. Capacity, transit connections, document readiness and destination procedures can affect the outcome.

Is cargo insurance included?

Do not assume the freight charge includes full-value cargo insurance. Ask for the insured value, cover, exclusions and premium separately.

Can you arrange door-to-door transport?

Provide both addresses and the cargo details for review. Availability and responsibility for each stage must be confirmed in the written proposal.
